Propane Safety Tips For The Holidays

December 19, 2019

The holidays are here! By now you’ve made your list and checked it twice. The excitement of the holidays is palpable. Between busting out the holiday decorations and doing last-minute shopping for gifts for family and friends, you can't help but get into the festive spirit. To keep that holiday cheer going and ensure your family stays safe and warm for the holidays, we’re offering these propane safety tips:

Check Your Tanks! Everyone loves a traditional holiday dinner, but the Christmas ham and turkey means your kitchen is probably working overtime. Not to mention welcoming out-of-town guests requires using more hot water for showers, laundry, and maybe cranking up the heat. Make sure to keep an eye on your propane levels and if you start running low, don’t take any chances, give us a call to schedule a delivery.

Christmas Tree Safety. Tis the season to decorate your Christmas tree! But make sure you leave plenty of room between your tree and indoor heating sources like radiators and fireplaces. Also, inspect your christmas lights and decorations to make sure they don’t pose a potential fire hazard.

Gas Stove Checkup. If your gas stove is putting in the work this holiday season, you might want to do a quick color check to determine whether or not your stove has been wasting energy and needs to be serviced. If the flame is blue, it’s A-OK. If the color is yellow or another color, that might be an indication that the burners may be clogged and in need of maintenance.

Sound The Alarm. Remember to check your smoke alarms and install carbon monoxide detectors in your home. The threat of odorless carbon monoxide can be detected by a simple alarm that will warn you to get your family to a safe location.

On behalf of everyone here at Nelson Propane, we wish you a safe and happy holiday!
