It's Time To Fire Up The Grill: 4 Simple Safety Steps

February 19, 2019

Now that spring is almost here, it is a perfect time (if you haven’t done it already) to dust off that outdoor grill. The weather is perfect for birthday celebrations, barbeque parties, or just regular dinners. Unfortunately, grills are responsible for many home fires and injuries. To ensure that your grill is safe to operate and avoid any emergency situations follow a set of safety tips listed below:

First, if you haven’t used the grill for some time, thoroughly check the inside. Rodents and small animals tend to set up nests in the outdoor equipment that sits idle for some time.

Second, remove the covers and inspect the actual burners. Burners tend to corrode due to burned grease, hence conducting a quick inspection will help find any major corrosion and avoid flare-ups.

Third, don’t forget to inspect the propane tank. Pull the tank out and look for any visible damage like cracks or dents. In addition, use the water and soap mixture to check for any leaks. Find more information on how to check for propane leaks here.

Finally, don’t forget to keep your grill in a well-ventilated area and make sure it is placed at least 10 feet away from any flammable materials. In addition, never leave the grill unattended, especially if you have children around.

Having enough propane is the key to the perfect party, hence make sure you have enough propane to cook your meals. Use these tips to estimate the amount of propane left in your tank or contact Nelson Propane. We will check the level of the propane in your tank and replace it if needed.
